From I-25 north, take Exit 242 toward Placitas.
Turn right (east) on NM 165 and go 6.7 miles.
Turn left on Camino de Las Huertas and go 2.7 miles.
Turn left on Palomino Road.
Follow this paved and winding road 0.7 miles to a dirt road (Llano del Norte).
Turn left and go 0.3 miles to two gates.
Go through the first gateway (but not the second one) and turn left.
Drive 100 yards southwest to a drop gate.
Drive through and fasten the gate behind you.
Continue another 250 yards and park at the new gate at
the end of the road. Just past the pedestrian access gate,
a new trailhead sign points to the right. This hike begins straight ahead.

JAN 31, 2010: Apparently the trail crew at Placitas Open Space
did not agree with Hike 24. Their trail sign directs hikers off to
the right once through the new gate. And according to Sonja
Dewing at examiner.com, they've placed scrub to discourage
hikers from following the route described in the book.
