Japanilainen Hideki Kanno saapui Turkuun joulukuun alussa Titanikin
residenssitaiteilijaksi. Kuukauden ajan hän on rakentanut galleriaan
virtuaalista metsää Tree Story Forest, joka kertoo moniäänisesti puista.

Työskennellessään viime vuonna Yhdysvalloissa Kanno pyysi kirjailija
Stephen Aushermania kirjoittamaan tekstejä, joiden kaikkien aiheena oli
puu.

- Ausherman lupautui ja kirjoitti minulle sata puutarinaa. Niistä
kolmekymmentä on toteutettu tähän näyttelyyn. Tekstit ovat erilaisia,
niissä on runoutta, esimerkiksi haikuja, Hideki Kanno kertoo. ...

from EDITION/100

[October 2006]

"Tree Story Forest Project" is a collaboration work with an American
writer, Stephen Ausherman. While Ausherman created 100
abstract-poetry-like tree stories, Kanno collected the tree stories. Kanno
asked people whom he met during his international travels to read the
tree stories into a voice recorder. By playing the collected tree stories as
a sound installation/performance piece, the spoken words form an
imaginary "forest" in the air. The first forest appeared in Tokyo on
August 20th, 2006.

Kanno's works always require electric devices such as computer,
microphone, amplifier and speaker. By using these devices, Kanno, who
lives apart from nature, plants trees of art all over the world. Kanno
explaining the aim of this project to those who have different concept of
culture and value reminds us a missionary priest of the art.

By sending the voices of tree stories, Kanno attempts to represent a
certain sense of respect, affection, wonder, and even fear to nature. The
landscape each people sees through this project would different, but
comunicating with the "Tree Stories" is a trigger for the audience to pay
attention to the nature. This trigger is what Kanno is sending as "present".

The enclosed "Tree Story Forest Project" for the "Edition/100" is on
CD-R. Written tree stories are also enclosed in both English and Japanese.

Frankrike. ...
